The heading of the post is taken from great Santosh Singh’s blog( now if he read this he will comment “Dear i m nt Sir..im Santosh Simple Singh..so forget it) .
Day Zero:
We start our journey in grand style..get seat in train with two doors in both side,so much air coming thru this doors its like air conditioner, having attached bathroom and basin is right above our bed..bed is made of newspaper..and we took food dere also..actually we dnt had our “reservation” and we don’t have any Arjun singh to shout for us ..so his colleague Mr.Lalu & co took great care of us but our joy(?) was compensated by the natural beauties of the sides of Konkan railways.we reached Karwar station at 10:30 P.M
Day One:
Karwar..a small port city of Karnatak..but when i was in IIFM..i thought Karwar or it will be Kerwa(those are in IIFM..the must know Kerwa..specially after the introduction of adventure club…so many dangerous, life risking(!) activities are carried out there) but i was wrong..it was really nice place with the “SANGAM” of river and mountain.our rest house was in front of Kali river..its amazing place to take rest..in IIFM we use a word “DIN THELU”( that is spending the days idlely)..the place was worth for DIN THELU.
we went the beach…famous karwar beach..first time i saw a beach with so less people.Bt the interesting thing that there were hut artificially build beside the beach.and people spend Rs.1950/– for staying dere for one day(my god..can u imagine indian spending 1950/– for one day stay and that also in hut…again i saw a boat house where people are spending 3000/– per head to spend a day on floating water in boat..ironically in that river where the boat house was floating..as water level had come down due to low tide about 100 to 200 people were collecting ‘SHELL” to earn their livelihood in amidst of thick mud and in the knee height water standing hours after hours… what wrong if radical thought come to my mind..imagine what could u do with this money…giving to an old age home or orphan home..no we will not do that … then how we can say “INDIA SHINING”)..
we have great fun in sea. Then came back to our rest house and took rest.In the night good news came that the marriage of Vaibhab’s elder sister has been fixed and so he gave a grand party(not to mention it was not dry at all, hard luck to Shweta and Kalpana..they had to tolerate IDLI and PAU BHAJI).The day one passed.
Day Two:
Our real field trip started from this day..early morning we had to pack our luggage and move to Yellapur, a forest division under Cirsi Circle.Actually it became Day of Public Transportation..we were moved to Karwatti,a forest sub division..we stayed in amidst of Jungle..in forest rest house..here we met Mr.Anand..nice person, helpful, simple living nd high thinking, done post graduation in agriculture..my subject..and he is preparing for IFS.
Day Three:
Day start with a cigarate and in breakfast we get Upma(a karnatak food). We visited forest depot, the highest revenue earning depot of Karnatak..saw a piece of teak wood costing six lakh.Lunch was amazing..real home feeling..i eat rice so eagerly after so many days..our caretaker Parshuram really cooks well.so dinner was also rocking.Mr Anand provided a cricket bat and we had good time playing cricket dere.Perhaps if Chappel saw us he would consider for inclusion of our instead Saurav Ganguly for our enthusiasm during playing.
Day Four:
Got up early(8:30am early compare to any holiday in IIFM) as we had to go to Nursery plant site with assistant forest conservator(ASF).our time was 10:30,but it is Indian Govt. official time..so 10:30am became 12:45 pm and Mr ASF proved that eternal saying”Common sense is very uncommon”.He took us to the nursery which is 1 hour away..and that is in Hungry stomach. We came back from there at 4 pm and had our lunch at 4(!).I dnt understood what was the problem if he took us that place after lunch.Seeing the plants i wished if i could eat those seedling in raw from(It also gave me lesson what people could do for their Hungry stomach..very philosophical thought). Then we went to village forest protection camp which is a really new concept.these forest protection camps are made to stop theft of tree from the forest..villagers are voluntarily as well as on daily wages(by govt) work dere in amidst of jungle.really its cool experience.
Day Five:
The day was scheduled for visit to the tribal settlement..the tribe were “Gauri”.The visit was really amazing experience for all of us.Oh my god how enthusiastic and warm welcome those people gave us..they showed dance, take to a Dam(can u imagine 25 villagers are escorting us to the Dam). They took us in a ride in small boat dere also. These people were also very when they were taken photo..pure innocence.I will never forget this experience in my life.
Day Six:
It was really day of full masti..the day prove the crux of Field trip of IIFM.Every day we were having new experience and we were really enjoying every moment. So much respect and warm welcome we were really receiving everywhere it is uncomparable to any thing. Its like we are “MINI IFS Officer” .First we were taken to DCF office by jeap and taken to the Magod falls by jeap..a very nice person was driving our jeap..his name is Santosh. Then real surprise came during lunch.we stopped at a hotel and taken our food as our last few days habit(Karnatak forest deptt. really changed our habit of taking food quantity)….when we went to pay our bill then we were told that it was paid by forest department…real treat by KFD.Magod falls was amazing..in Shewata’s language”ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC”.and it was also my first visit to any falls.so i enjoyed a lot.It may sounding that are we only having fun in field trip ..not learning anything…what can i do about this..this is all about field trip.our staying in Karwatti over that day.
Day Seven:
Its an another eventful day.As our day at kirwatti ended we thought of making it memorable by making our lunch our own.Great Abhishek sir was dere to cook for us.really he cook good food…had a great time in lunch..as it was im taking food in home.we packed our luggage and gone for Sirsi.Sirsi guest house was beautiful…bt i learn something out here after meeting with DCF of Sirsi…he really brain stormed us.
Day Eight:
today we visited Jog falls..yes the famous jog fall.we went to the nadir of falls and believe me it was really exhausting.
Day Nine:
Our work at Sirsi start wth visiting circle office of sirsi today.
Day Ten:
Today we visited a bamboo estate 25 km away from Sirsi..again same reception,,tea wth Good-day biscuit..perhaps karnataka govt had signed a MoU wth Britannia Biscuit ..lunch was a feast …rice, chicken and that also under shades of tree on table chair…really field trip had made us mini IFS officer.
Day Eleven:
we visited Bakkal Botanical Garden.though it is in preparation stage still the design and the scientific structure of the garden really wonderful.
Day Twelve:
The day to remember.we visited Doddamane Forest Guest House..the most beautiful location i have ever seen my life…the Forest IB(Inspection Banglow)is situated at the top of a hillock and inside the forest.in front of it the magnificent view of the Western Ghat, one of the two biological hotspot of India.Really if i am not studying in IIFM i would never see this place in my life.we stayed here for one day. Here i also eat FISH.
I have lost patients…so i am not been able to write about rest of the days. Sorry dear forgive me.
