2007 : Part One

Posted by soumiksdiary on January 2, 2008

The mailbox is flooded with Happy year message and so the inbox of mobile. 2007 is over and life has entered into a new year. 2007- A Year to Remember. Many incidents in this year have changed my life.

It was understandable that the year was going to be rocking when I spent the 31st Night of 2006 in famous M.G.Road of Bangalore during field trip. Came back to campus on 4th Jan and the Year 2007 in my life started with very positive note thanks to our seniors in IIFM. The package figure saw a whopping 60% increase and it was enough moral booster particularly for me not to study in IIFM. I realized it is more important to pursue dream than to study which I do not want to study. IIFM is like that, provide you the platform and space to do what you wish for.

After the Field trip presentation, Third term began and there was none to do the boring job of Assisting the Class Representative. I did and thus got good grade at the end the third term : )

Third Term from January to April was cool. Most of the weekend afternoons I used to hang out in Upper Lake along with Dev but did not came across any cute face although. IIFMights are unfortunate on this aspect I guess (except some).

Academically third term was more fascinating. First meeting with Mr. Kotlar happened in this term. I learnt lot MS Access for MIS course but thanks to far above the ground retention power, it was evaporated. In this term most of the time my groups were used to be deadly group (in this third term only, one of members of my group learnt how to create Table in MS-Word). Most of the group members were nocturnal and those were not, they were converted and thus our assignment used to start at midnight. I remember, in one of the written assignments of MIS, I mentioned the time of accessing websites in the reference section and the time was around 4 A.M and CSR had commented something seeing that.

January was full of parties thank to senior, remember one particular party where it was hard for me to even walk after over eating (not drinking) in Rice Bowl.

February was full of events. Kalpataru, a weeklong festival among IIFM communities was held this time and got some prizes to put them in CV.

March started with sad note as seniors started to leave campus. But before their leaving we celebrated “Holi”, the festival of Colour. It was Amazing. Second time got drenched in the tank of IIFM Boys Hostel (First time was at Midnight when I was thrown into the water as a part of Birthday Celebration).

The most memorable experience in this time was the astounded speech of Dr. Abid Hussain who was the chief guest of Convocation. His words were inspiring and motivating but more importantly He told what my ear wanted to hear “Go and Pursue your Dream”. Chasing Dream today also and lets see when I can make it reality.

Our OT –I was scheduled from 22nd April. First OT, so some excitements were there. After ITC refused to offer Projects even after taking interviews , I applied for close OT in Bandhan and was confirmed. I did close OT in Bandhan because I am passionate about Micro Finance and Today I think that was very right decision. OT in Bandhan helped me altogether to get selected for DCB when it came down to campus for OT –II selection interview and ultimately it leads to Job.

As my OT was in Kolkata, I came back to my Home which is two and half hours from Kolkata. Home, Sweet Home!! Everybody said that I gained lot of weight. May be!

OT was for 10 weeks. So Starting from Mid April to Mid June, I was there in home, spent some time in Ranesh’s House (Batchmate who was doing same project with me in Bandhan). OT in Bandhan was very good learning experience and visited some part of south Bengal where I had never visited. It was incredible feeling that I was visiting all those places alone and talking to those unknown people starting from Bandhan’s staff to villagers. Even one year before, I never thought that sort of things. One thing was apparent that people were very cordial. OT ended well and our efforts was appreciated by C.S.Ghosh Sir (ED of Bandhan).

I came back to campus in June 22 alone and most of the batchmates were in their home to spend the Scheduled Holiday week after OT. I was in campus almost alone from my batch. Juniors had just arrived in the campus and believe me I was scared to see such huge number of Juniors. They were everywhere.

This post has becoming very long. So I should divide this in two parts.

Now Some Inputs if One Day You are quizzed about my Life : )

New Person in Life in this Period:

C.S.Ghosh Sir : A very dedicated man with “Simple living and High Thinking”. I was amazed to see his quest for learning anything.

Pranav Sharma : Alumnus and future Big shot. Very Helpful.

Abhishek Choudhury : Another very helpful Alumnus

Love Life in this period : Two Smiley  - :) and - :(

Questions…

Posted by soumiksdiary on March 3, 2007

Life is all about dreams and achieving those dreams. So you need to dream a lot- dreams about your goals. What you want to do. It may not be with expectation of the people who are surrounding you and you depend on them. So what if your dreams is not at par with the dreams of those people …CONFLICT…if is not with parents….you feel “generation gap”..or if it is with your best friend or love..you feel her/him “not understanding”. So who is right??

Can answer be absolute or it can be only relative? Who will reply?

Your wellwisher have certain expectation on you- why? They know your potential or they want you only see on that position to strengthen their position in society. Why you want to do different- you want to be different only or escapist attitude. If you are not escapist then why you do not want to fulfill your wellwisher’s expectation.

Are you too individualistic or selfish? But selfish to whom- If you pursue your life for your own achievement or do what you like to do in life then it is really selfishism. What if you devote your life for the service of many others without considering your wellwishers or hurting them—Are you really selfish?

Anwar

Posted by soumiksdiary on February 4, 2007

Last week I saw Anwar.First i will tell about Anwar. what kind of movie Anwar is? Let me say in different way: suppose u are floating on a river in a houseboat in sunderban with the hope that u will be able to see the royal bengal tiger but u end up only hearing the roaring of tiger. Anwar is like that.so much expectation was dere regarding this movie and really so much potential it has to become Good movie..still it fails. why it fails?
first of all lack of proper vision of the director Manish Jha who’s debut is this movie.secondly bollywood culture..do all the movie need to be two and half hour affair, cant it be short if the story demands. Anwar is love story based on the contemporary sociopolitical situation of India. It is story of a man’s aspiration to love someone more than life. The debutante Siddharth Kairala(brother of Manisha kairala) is the lead actor. He has done very commendable job but as i told already that the proper binding of the story has faded his performance.Does Manish Jha not been able to find any good editor. Manish also lacks in placing right person in right place. The character of Vijayraj(’krishna’ in the movie) is amazing but when ever vijayraj came to screen people tend to laugh..is that manish wanted. so much pain, sensitivity is attached with the character..but alas..all in vain. Is it that the movie does not have any thing mention worthy..not like that..the best thing about the movie is its music..the ” maula maula” is already superhit..but i like the Pankaj Avasti’s song(its tune is very similar to Karam’s tilte song). Manish has protraited some picture in part which was very prominent during the showing of title card. Some do not like the idea of protraiting anwar in as avatar krishna and some were laughing seeing this..but i dnt know what makes them laugh. in this society when All Hindu think Muslim as terrorist and all Muslim think hindu as “kafer”..does the intermixing of anwar with “krishna” too much symbolic?

IIFM ROCKS

Posted by soumiksdiary on January 15, 2007

With boom in Indian Economy and banking sector focusing on rural finance, IIFMights are getting outmost important for the recruiters in this sector,  placement 2007  in IIFM  scenario reflects the same. All the leading banks, marketing research organization have came to IIFM campus for placement 2007.  Like previous year international organization Olam International came with highest package which is around 30 lakh per annum and it’s a foreign placement.Next highest package was offered by Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB) for domestic placement and it was 7.25 lakh per annum. 4 students were placed in IMRB. Talking about the banking sector, ICICI-RMAG has   recruited 7 students with package of 6 lakh +, ICICI- Prudential has recruited  7 students with package of 6 lakh+, India Bulls Securities Ltd has recruited 8 students with package of 6 lakh+, HDFC bank has recruited 5 students with package of 4.75 lakh. In the Microfinance Sector, SKS microfinance has recruited 2 students with package of around 3.6 lakh per annum.
Now if I talk about the PPOs (pre placement offer) ,One
Student has done it in the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) with package of arond 7.5 lakh and one in TERI with average package of 4 lakh per annum.
IIFMights are always demanding choice in Paper industry. This year Grasim Industry, part of Aditya Birla Group has recruited 5 students with average package of 4.2 lakh and it includes internationa offer and J.k Paper has recruited I student with package of 3.85 lakh per annum.
Considering the all package , the average package will be around 6 lakh+ which is far better than last year package of 4.2 lakh+. so in a word placement 2007 in iifm was rocking and according to our seniors and professors it will be better in the coming years
I also thank Ashish sir and other seniors who has set this high benchmark.  I also thank our favorite sir Prof.
Biswas sir for his continuous and meticulous efforts in the placement, without him this was not possible.

Dr.Google

Posted by soumiksdiary on November 11, 2006

Now Google(religion for everybody here in IIFM)has  become doctor.Astonished? Surprisingly it is true. Dr.Google helps doctors to diagnosing illness.Researchers fond that almost six in ten difficult cases can be solved by using Google as diagnostic aid.Now question is “HOW”.
A team of researchers at the Prince Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane identified 26 difficult diagnostic cases  published in a medical journal. They selected three to four search terms from each case and did a Google search.Google gives them access to more than three billion medical articles. They then selected and recorded the three diagnosis that were close to case and appeared to fit the symptoms and signs and compared the results with the correct diagnoses as published in that journal.Google searches found the correct diagnosis in 15 cases. The researchers suggest Google is likely to be a useful aid for conditions with unique symptoms and signs that can easily be used as search terms.
Now thats really amazing.

My little thought

Posted by soumiksdiary on October 9, 2006

The room is well decorated. Made of  marbles, tiles. Having electric connection ,a fan, two Philips small tube light and over all an carriers air conditioner. Welcome you to a Darga , worship place for people belonging to Muslim community. if you think I have any objection with this decoration then I m sorry .coz my intention is not to decorate the room. Actually what I am trying to point out an astonishing fact that this room or rather worship room is not accessible for women folks.  They can only sit before the room .this is not permissible in Muslim religion. Why?Actually I do not know any thing abut Muslim religion and my intention is not to criticize Muslim religion. So what   I am  saying from just what I feel as I simple general   human point of view. The world has so much changed. The women r so advanced. No works r left untouched by women folks in today’s world. Still they are not given   permission to enter the worship room. Why?  What are the problems if they enter the room? Why the women folks are not saying anything about this? Why are they silent? What the wise people are saying? So many unanswered questions…..

Durga Puja

Posted by soumiksdiary on October 9, 2006

Dugra puja over. as usual maa has gone to her husband home after staying in the world fr four days. this is myth. but beyond myth reality is the celebration .four day of fun ,happiness ,laughing, no sorrow, no tears. Really durga puja and bangaliana are synonymous .this year was lucky fr me that I have been able to see durga puja as dere was holiday in IIFM. It was unexpected as in admission letter is was clearly written that u will not been able to go home fr next six months.so when I was taking admission I thought that I will not been to see the puja .bt thank god pfm chairperson confusion and we got great relief of ten days. This was special fr me for one reason that I came home after 3 and half months (and that also from outside of West Bengal) . I spend the puja mostly on my mobile as well land phone. so many things to say to you dear. so much to talk to u. I wanted to say directly bt alas that did not happen, nevertheless I am not complaining u. it was expected. It was nice felling to see my old days friends.it was also great felling to talk with the BCKV friends. i never realized how much I used to miss my those bckv friends. But all well that ends well . so this puja also ends well.

Back to home

Posted by soumiksdiary on October 9, 2006

Home my sweet home! At last im in home fr 6 days holiday and that also in Durga puja.I dnt know hw to express my happiness. im on top of the world. U would nt believe hw much pleasure to see the bangle hoarding besides the street .Seeing the name of the station written in Bengali. its amazing. My pleasure was doubled when I was coming home by bus from station as the time was of Anjali (a special time to pray your worship to Maa Durga). The beautiful girls all wearing sari walking thru the street the roads were decorated wth light so happy happy feeling in the air.As if all saying welcome to me. I did not realize before hw much I love my Bengal or my native place bt staying in
Bhopal make me realize that. you may think me parochial but it is the fact and I donot nt protesting you. earlier I used to  hate my home place bt staying outside helps me to realize that u can not get pleasure unless u love
ur own place. U mst have a root and u should be proud of that root. actually the root will not forget u.im  giving an example which strengthen my views. My real home(where my uncles and aunt live) is in remote village. the roads are kachha , muddy, narrow. nw one day when I was going dere by my bike(kinetic bajaj.. .its my love ) .there was cows in amidst of road.which is very natural in village side.so when I was going dere somehow my bike touched one of cows and I could not control my bike and fall in muddy paddy field. ,y legs were submerged and my bike also fall into the filed.real thing started now. almost all the peoples older as well as children came out of their house to see me,asking me whether I am hurted or not? One uncle with whom I hardly talk came forward to pull my bike from the field and he took all the initiative to clean the bike with water and after cleaning my bike he himself drive the bike upto the road where the road is free of cows as well as broad. from dere I drive my bike and he went back his home by walking. dear where will u see this cordialness ? The man whom I hardly talk do all the things. Is it possible outside
ur home place. can u expect same kind of behaviors in a city. My answer is no!
